Startup and pressure issues

System does not start when the switch is in the ON position: The issue usually stems from a disconnected main power supply, a closed water inlet valve, or insufficient water pressure/volume. Solution: Check your electrical connection, ensure your water valve is fully open, and verify the water source supply.

System starts but runs unevenly/erratically: This is often explained by insufficient water pressure or volume, a clogged inlet filter/strainer, or a damaged piston. Solution: Check the flow rate of your water source, clean or replace the filter, and inspect the piston for cracks or breakage.

Drop in pressure: This can result from several factors: a worn or clogged nozzle, belt slippage, an inlet air leak, a stuck or worn unloader valve (regulator), a clogged suction strainer, dirty/worn packings, dirty/worn inlet or discharge valves, or a leaking discharge hose. Solution: Replace the nozzle with the appropriate size, tighten or replace the belt, reseal the inlet plumbing, clean or adjust the unloader valve, clean the strainer, replace worn seals, or clean/replace valves.

Pump runs extremely loud/noisily: The cause is usually a restricted water inlet or air trapped in the inlet plumbing. Solution: Check the size of the inlet piping, ensure proper sealing, and thoroughly purge air from the system.

Leak issues (Water and Oil)

Water leaking at the manifold: The culprits are almost always worn seals (packings), which simply need to be replaced by installing new ones.

Oil leaking between the crankcase and the manifold: This is caused by worn piston rod seals or piston retainer O-rings. Solution: Replace the crankcase rod seals or the O-rings.

Oil leaking near the crankshaft: The cause is often a worn or damaged crankshaft seal or an improperly installed O-ring. Solution: Remove the retainer and replace the oil seal or O-ring.

Water in the crankcase (milky or creamy white appearance): This is caused by condensation from humid air or worn packings and piston rings. Solution: Change the oil immediately using a high-performance non-detergent oil, and replace the seals or O-rings.

Oil leaking under or at the back of the crankcase: This indicates worn piston rod seals, a damaged crankcase or rear cover, or a defective drain plug/sight glass gasket. Solution: Replace the rod seals or the damaged parts and O-rings.

Noise and premature wear

Excessive play at the end of the crankshaft pulley: This is generally caused by one or more worn main bearings due to excessive drive belt tension. Solution: Replace the affected bearing(s) and adjust or change the belts.

Loud knocking noise in the pump: Possible causes include a loose pulley on the crankshaft, or a worn/broken bearing or connecting rod. Solution: Check the pulley, keyway, and alignment, then tighten the setscrew, or replace the bearing/connecting rod if necessary.

Frequent or premature seal (packing) failure: This is often a sign of a scored or worn piston, excessive pressure directed to the inlet manifold, or abrasive materials in the pumped liquid. Solution: Replace the pistons, reduce the inlet pressure, or install an adequate filtration system at the equipment's inlet.
