How to properly use a pressure washer for optimal and safe cleaning

Handling a pressure washer, also known as a power washer, requires special attention to ensure your safety while achieving optimal cleaning results.

Essential Tips for Using a Pressure Washer:

Read the user manual:  Before using your power washer, familiarize yourself with the manufacturer's manual. Each model may have specific features. At Multi PSI, our MPC equipment comes with a QR code for easy access to the operator's manual.

Wear protective gear:  Use safety goggles, rubber gloves, and non-slip shoes to protect yourself from water splashes and debris while using the pressure washer.

Choose the right nozzle:  Use the nozzle that is suitable for the surface you’re cleaning. A wide spray nozzle is ideal for large surfaces, while a concentrated spray nozzle is perfect for stubborn dirt. Check our Nozzle Chart to select the right accessory.

Maintain the proper distance: Always hold the washer at a certain distance from the surface you’re cleaning. Start from a distance and gradually move closer as needed. A jet that’s too close can damage the surface. Point the nozzle toward the ground before starting the equipment.

Use the right angle: Maintain an angle of about 45 degrees to prevent chipping and potential surface damage.

Avoid sensitive surfaces: Don’t direct the water jet toward fragile materials like untreated wood, windows, or sealant areas to prevent damage.

Clean from top to bottom: For vertical surfaces, always start from the top so that dirt naturally flows downward.

Be cautious around electrical areas: Keep the water jet away from electrical outlets, cables, and appliances to avoid the risk of electrocution.

Use an electric washer in enclosed spaces: In a closed environment, avoid using gas-powered equipment as the exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide (CO). Opt for a CSA-approved electric pressure washer in buildings or garages.

Never point the jet at people or animals: High pressure can cause serious injuries, so avoid using it on living beings.

By following these tips, you can ensure safe and effective use of your pressure washer while protecting the surfaces you’re cleaning.
